Media Activity for Wednesday and Thursday (1-11 to 1-12)

Media Activity for Wednesday/Thursday (1-11 to 1-12)
1.  Go to my.hrw.com and login to your textbook acccount.
2.  Pages 576-578 review the information in the lesson from Tuesday. (Since I have your notes, the information in the textbook is especially helpful in helping you review the credibility of media.)
3.  Go to the Houston Chronicle website.

4.  Find three news articles from the Houston Chronicle to evaluate. Make sure to write down the title of each article.  Use the worksheet to jot down your observations.  When you are finished with this sheet, save it and print it out.  Do NOT choose the printer that is called the document writer.  Choose the other option instead.  The electronic file for the worksheet can be found on the shared drive.  (my computer/shared on SHH-STUD/Buehring/Pre-AP English Classes/Second Semester/Evaluate 3 Articles from the Houston Chronicle)
5.  Follow the directions below to complete this step:
  • Choose the most credible article out of the three.
  • Download the electronic file for "Produce Your Own Media" from the shared drive. (my computer/shared on SHH-STUD/Buehring/Pre-AP English Classes/Second Semester/Produce Your Own Media)
  • Create a bibliography over the one news article you chose using http://easybib.com/. You will need to look for how to write a bibliography for a newspaper article that is in an electronic format. Copy and paste that bibliography at the top of the left-hand side of the chart on the "Produce Your Own Media" file.
  • Underneath the bibliography (on the left-hand side), jot down notes that explain what makes your article credible.
  • Then, redraft the news article to make it seem UNRELIABLE. (You will want to copy and paste the original article on the right-hand side, change what you need to make it UNRELIABLE, and highlight or underline your changes.)
6. Save your product so we can access the electronic file later AND print it out on the laser printer in the writing lab. If you are using this blog, create a livebinders account at http://livebinders.com/ and upload your product to livebinders.  When you get to a computer that has access to the wiki, then sign in to the wiki, go to the "Class Projects" link, click "edit" at the top of that page, and upload your file to that page under the appropriate class so that we can save time when presenting. Remember, for this product, I want a printed copy AND an electronic copy on my wiki.
